Why NYC Is the Hardest Commercial Drone Market

The demand drivers are enormous: the highest property values in the country, tens of thousands of production permits issued each year, more than 12,000 buildings subject to facade inspection, billions of dollars in active construction, over 780 bridges under city maintenance, and the densest delivery market in the nation. The flip side is regulatory density — nearly all of the five boroughs sit inside Class B airspace, and much of Manhattan has a LAANC ceiling of 0 ft AGL.

The Eight Universal Requirements

Before any commercial drone operation in NYC, the operator must satisfy all of the following. There is no exemption from any of them based on industry.

The Dual-Permit Structure

Federal authorization and city authorization are two separate locks on the same door. The FAA layer covers your Part 107 certificate, LAANC or DroneZone authorization, Remote ID, and aircraft registration. The Manhattan Airspace Reality

The single most important fact for commercial operators is that most of Manhattan below Central Park sits under LAANC grid cells with a 0 ft AGL ceiling.
